Interview ~ Desiree Finkbeiner, Author of Ethos; Morning Star

When a mysterious stranger interrupts Brianna's mundane routine, her eyes are opened to the dark underbelly of reality... immortal rogues, ancient conspiracies, prophetic revelations, savage tribes, mammoth dragonflies...

She's thrust into a race for her life when Kalen, a warrior from Ethos, discovers that she is harboring a secret... a secret that he'd give his life to protect.

There's just one little problem... they are tempted by a forbidden romance, which threatens to compromise a divinely appointed mission. They are faced with a choice... love eternal, or the end of the world...

Desiree Finkbeiner, Author of Ethos; Morning Star

What type of music do you listen to?

My musical tastes change every year because I can’t bear to get stuck
in the past, listening to the same music I was listening to 5 or 10
years  ago.  I embrace change, and love to add new music to the
soundtrack  of  my  life. Currently, I enjoy dubstep and modern
alternative. I listen to Pandora radio, and some common stations I
tune into are: Mike Snow, Foster the People, Dadmau5 etc. I also
enjoy imported music from France, particularly electro or French
opera.

Do you have any hidden talents?

Aside of art, music and writing, I enjoy linguistics and acting
though I didn’t pursue theatre as a career because I love being home
with my family. It seems actors lead fairly unstable lives and I
prefer the stability of home life.

What is one book you could read over and over?

Honestly? The Book of Mormon. I’m on my 7th or 8th reading right
now. A lot of people give it serious flack because they’ve been
taught by their religious leaders to hate it, and for no good reason.
Teaching people to be haters,  or to have fear or prejudice for
something that is ‘different’ speaks volumes of the person spreading
intolerance and hatred… Regardless of what others say, this book
inspires  me,  just like it has inspired millions of others… it
literally  changed  my  life. And every time I read it, I learn
something I didn’t notice before. It’s packed full of action, history
and spiritual wonder that keeps me coming back again and again. Even
for non religious readers, it’s a book that gives an interesting
perspective to the history of ancient America. I highly recommend it.

Is there an author or book that inspired you to become a writer?

There are really too many to name.  But reaching the farthest back
into my memory, the books that got me itching to write were the
‘Choose your own adventure’ books I read in elementary school.

What do you do in your free time?

Spend time with my family, read, study, write and learn foreign
languages.

How do reviews, good or bad, affect you?

I love them all! The fact that someone took the time to read my work
and write a review makes me smile (even if they hated it). Obviously,
all writers love positive reviews, but even the negative reviews are
an  opportunity  to  improve. Most negative reviews offer great
constructive criticism that point out what I need to work on. Though,
there are some that are just mean and have no constructive advice at
all, the 1 and 2 star reviews I appreciate are the ones that point
out reasons for their dislike. I realize that it is impossible to
appeal to everyone, so I take it with a grain of salt. Some people
hate the very things that other readers love, so I try to focus more
on writing for the readers who appreciate what I have to share. All
the rest is water under the bridge.

When writing, do you plot and organize, or do you write then fit it
all together?

I put it together in my mind, roughly, sometimes jotting down notes
of things I don’t want to forget. But, I mostly rely on inspiration
from a higher power to put the words into my heart as I write. When I
‘m living my life according to my beliefs, the writing comes easy…
but if I have been negative or rude to someone, I tend to freeze up
until I have properly reconciled my wrongs.

What is one thing you absolutely need while writing?

Silence. I write when everyone else in the house sleeps.

Anything you would like to add?

have two blogs that I update almost daily.  Many more books are on
