Guest Post ~ Jade Kerrion author of Perfection Unleashed! With GIVEAWAY!

What would you do if you came face-to-face with perfection, and it looked just like you? Two men, one face. One man seeks to embrace destiny, the other to escape it.

Danyael Sabre spent sixteen years clawing out of the ruins of his childhood and finally has everything he wanted--a career, a home, and a trusted friend. To hold on to them, he keeps his head down and plays by the rules. An alpha empath, he is powerful in a world transformed by the Genetic Revolution, yet his experience has taught him to avoid attention.

When the perfect human being, Galahad, escapes from Pioneer Laboratories, the illusory peace between humans and their derivatives--the in vitros, clones, and mutants--collapses into social upheaval. The abominations, deformed and distorted mirrors of humanity, created unintentionally in Pioneer Lab's search for perfection, descend upon Washington D.C. The first era of the Genetic Revolution was peaceful. The second is headed for open war.

Although the genetic future of the human race pivots on Galahad, Danyael does not feel compelled to get involved and risk his cover of anonymity, until he finds out that the perfect human being looks just like him.

And now for the guest post by Jade Kerrion!

In my award-winning novel, Perfection Unleashed, I created the perfect human being, Galahad. A friend laughed and said, “If Galahad’s male, then obviously he’s far from perfect.” I chuckled. There is one—and only one—reason why Galahad is male. I have a female protagonist, Zara Itani, and I wanted to get some romance going between them.

That said, my friend’s comment exemplifies one of my major struggles while writing Perfection Unleashed (and its sequels). What is the perfect human being? Would he be as brilliant as Albert Einstein, and as cute as Orlando Bloom? What kind of personality would he have? Would he be a strong and arrogant alpha male (which I personally find amusing rather than amazing, and ultimately aggravating) or a more balanced personality, one that a woman would cherish as a partner rather than worship as a protector? Just as an aside, have you figured out my biases yet? J

The beauty of writing Perfection Unleashed was that I didn’t have to figure it all out right away. Galahad was raised in a laboratory and subjected to cruel experiments. Physically, he’s twenty-five years old, but emotionally, he’s a child. The Double Helix series is as much about Galahad’s maturation as a human being, through (or perhaps in spite of) his perfect genes, as it is about the impact of Galahad’s freedom on Danyael’s life.

Perfection Unleashed (and its upcoming sequels) frequently contrast Galahad to Danyael Sabre, the alpha empath whose genetic code was used as the physical template for Galahad. Now, Danyael was almost as, if not more, challenging to write than Galahad. He is the main protagonist of the Double Helix series, but he’s an unusual hero. Physical and emotional pain fuels his deadly mutant powers. Craving privacy and solitude, he shields both his mind and emotions, but we catch tantalizing glimpses of his courage and compassion. Danyael is the shadow to Zara’s blazing light, and since they have nothing in common, they are obviously made for each other. J

And finally, Zara Itani is a Lebanese-Venezuelan mercenary. I’d be lying if I said I modeled her on me. I’m calm and controlled (unless I discover that my three-year-old has been using purple markers on my white walls); she’s a category-five hurricane about to touch down on Manhattan. She’s confident and capable, and while she would like to think that her heart is equal portions ice and steel, she has been known to act impulsively (and irrationally) when driven by compassion. No one else would have, on a whim, freed the perfect human being from his laboratory prison. This sentence, a preview from my third novel (Perfect Weapon which will be released in December 2012,) captures Zara’s essence: “On a good day, Zara could wreak more havoc with love than most people could with hate.” She is outrageously fun to write, and the daughter I would never wish on myself, my friends, or my worst enemies.

I hope you’ve enjoyed meeting some of the main characters from Perfection Unleashed, and that you’ll fall in love with them, as much as I have. Happy reading!
