Irene surveyed the bracelet doubtfully. It was just a thin, silver bangle. As far as she knew, there was nothing special about it. She wasn’t even sure where she’d gotten it—she’d probably picked it up during Ghost Festival.

“You want this?” she asked.

The cat scooted closer. Irene shrugged and held the bracelet out. The cat grabbed the bracelet in its mouth and took off, streaking away into the grayness beyond. Irene shook her head. Stupid cat.
